We’re gearing up for SWAFDE’s 2015 Conference in Los Angeles. Similar to the 2007 meeting, it will be held at the Forensic Science Center, which is the laboratory shared by LAPD and LASD. We plan on taking advantage of the access to equipment and work on some (hopefully) challenging cases in small groups. If anyone would like to present a paper at this meeting, please contact me (Miriam). My contact info is in the SWAFDE directory, or you can fill out the Contact Form on the right under Public Quick Links. Non-member Forensic Document Examiners and trainees are welcome to attend but will need approval from a Regional Representative. As is usual, we will want to verify that attendees have the minimum training requirements (2-4 years full time under a qualified Examiner) or are in the process of obtaining those requirements. Please fill out the Contact Form if you wish to attend the meeting and would like to be contacted by the Regional Rep in your area.
About 30 members and guests attended last weekend’s meeting. Much thanks to Barbara, Iris, Mel, Suji, and Wes of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for putting together an enjoyable and informative program. Special thanks to Mel for providing writing tablets and tons of yummy treats to nosh on. We probably all gained about 5 pounds and 3 cavities. The next meeting is in Los Angeles, and we are looking at moving into May to avoid conflicts with other organizations’ meetings. When program information is available, it will be posted on the Meeting page. I hope to see everyone soon! Miriam
